You Love to Travel!

Virtual Travel - Right Now

We live on a fascinating planet. If you are lucky enough to be healthy and are semi-retired or retired, you may have spent a considerable amount of your leisure time traveling. The title, You Love to Travel, Go For It!  is obviously unrealistic these days, amid the Covid-19 epidemic, however we can still dream and experience travel in other ways.

Financial planners refer to the first years after retirement as the go-go years. These are the times when that dream vacation or trip should be taken. Don’t postpone it because we don’t know what tomorrow will bring. There are many travel agencies that focus on travel for those who are gracefully greying. Companies such as Backroads and Tauck Tours have activities and trips aimed at all ages and levels of physical fitness. I have known seniors with severe physical disabilities who have carefully planned out and have had wonderful vacation and travel experiences. Colleges and universities have travel programs aimed at all ages. Many of these will feature prominent speakers and experts on the area or theme of the trip.

My wife and I experienced a riverboat trip in Southern France that was a wonderful. The ship was beautiful, and the food and accommodations were excellent. The passengers were almost all seniors, many in there upper seventies and older. The guided tour options offered different degrees of difficulty from very easy and gentle, to more vigorous depending on each passengers desires and physical abilities. The beauty of a river cruise is that they are small and intimate. You experience different interesting ports, villages or cities every day, with the ability to get on and off the river boat at will. There is no packing and unpacking - you are literally staying in a floating hotel. Many of those who are gracefully greying prefer larger cruise ships which is another way to see much of the world in leisurely fashion.

As I write this, we are faced with a Coronovirus pandemic that is greatly impacting our ability to travel, as the world is shut down. Hopefully this  will subside soon, and those who want to see the world while they are gracefully greying can do so at will. Travel is so enriching as there are so many options for our demographics who want to live life fully while they still can.
