Adrienne Brodeur's book is a memoir of a daughter ensnared in the grip of her mother’s magnetic, spellbinding and remarkably selfish personality. At 14 years old, Adrienne’s mother confides in her daughter that she is embarking on an affair.  Not only that, she manipulates Adrienne to be complicit by lying to her father so that the affair can continue for several years. The consequences of her complicity has a profound impact on Adrienne’s life as an adult.  This book is a fascinating portrayal of resilience and self examination; a probing study of the lies we often tell ourselves in an attempt to justify and rationalize our choices.
