A Musical Moment

A Musical Moment

From the worst, to the best!

My wife describes watching the national news each morning and evening as a horror show!  This is what we see.  The Coronavirus is spiraling out of control in many states - we have already lost over 134,000 lives, as of this article publication. The economy is extremely volatile as millions of people are out of work, or working on a more limited basis - many without health care. Schools are shut, indefinitely.  Many companies such as Neiman Marcus, J.C. Penney and others have filed for bankruptcy.  We are experiencing political upheaval in our government, and the upcoming election is stressful to think about, to say the least.  Social unrest, police reform, and the country’s response to racial injustice are all at boiling points.

Thinking about all of this, as we are living in a surreal universe, is depressing and frightening. We all need a break!

One of my favorite songs came to mind as I ponder our current state of affairs.  It is a beautiful and poetic song by the legendary jazz musician Louis Armstrong.  It is called What A Wonderful World.

Here are the lyrics:

I see trees of green

Red roses too

I see them bloom

For me and you

And I think to myself

What a wonderful world

I see skies of blue

And clouds of white

The bright blessed day

The dark sacred night

And I think to myself what a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow

So pretty in the sky

Are also on the faces

of people going by

I see friends shaking hands

Saying, “How do you do?”

They’re really saying

“I love you”

I hear babies cry

I watch them grow

They’ll learn much more

Than I’ll never know

And I think to myself

What a wonderful world

Yes, I think to myself

What a wonderful world

Oh yeah

Now take a moment and listen. We need more love and kindness in these trying times and What A Wonderful World says it all!
